The First Impression You Didn't Know You Were Making

What Your Rising Sign Reveals

About Your Executive Presence

If you've ever been called intimidating, too quiet, too stubborn, too sensitive, too intense, too serious, or even too nice, you've experienced the powerful projections of first impressions. Hear me out, some of that has less to do with your competence and more to do with the leadership archetype people unconsciously assign to you. Whether fair or unfair, those impressions influence hiring decisions, promotions, leadership opportunities, and your relationships. The question isn't whether people make snap judgments... because they do, including you. The more useful question is: What are they seeing?

This is one of the reasons I love my framework of Executive Astrology. It gives clear language to the leadership archetypes people often experience before they truly know you. And that's news you can use to empower and position yourself.

Every zodiac sign has a professional reputation. Whether it's accurate or not, people are responding to the archetype before they know the person.

First Impressions Matter More Than We Like to Admit

In sociology, we know people are constantly making meaning from limited information. Clothing. Tone of voice. Eye contact. Posture. Facial expressions. Titles. Even the way someone walks into a room communicates something long before they introduce themselves. If you accept that your body language speaks for you long before any words comes out of your mouth, you're half way there. And once you understand where your body language comes from and what it is broadcasting out like an energetic wi-fi signal, you can better leverage that language and improve your communication, collaboration and cooperation skills.

Astrology adds another fascinating layer. Your Rising Sign (Ascendant) often describes the energy people encounter first. It's your entrance into the room. Your executive presence. The lens through which others initially experience you. Your Sun Sign, on the other hand, represents your enduring leadership style. As people spend time with you, they begin to understand your motivations, values, strengths, and the way you naturally contribute. Think of it this way:

  • Rising Sign: "This is who I think you are."

  • Sun Sign: "Now I understand who you really are."

I'm a Taurus Sun with a Scorpio Rising. The people who know me well often describe me as patient, grounded, collaborative, and practical. That's my Taurus nature. But strangers? They usually meet my Scorpio Rising first. Before I've had the opportunity to smile, laugh, or tell a story, I've often been perceived as intense, intimidating, mysterious, or difficult to read. Years ago, I might have spent energy trying to convince people they were wrong. Today, I simply understand that they're responding to my introduction, not my entire story. That's empowering. I actually lean into it for discernment to alert me as to which interactions to lend my energy and efforts to and guide my clients how to do the same to minimize burnout and misalignment.

The goal isn't to stop being misunderstood, we can't stop others from misreading you. The goal is to understand yourself well enough that other people's first impressions don't become your identity.

Your Rising Sign Is Your Professional Introduction

Instead of trying to become someone else and copy what you perceive their leadership style to be, Executive Astrology asks a different question to lead you towards authenticity: How can you lead more intentionally once you understand how your executive presence naturally lands? Here are some of the most common workplace first impressions associated with each rising sign and a more empowering way to interpret and leverage them to elevate your leadership intelligence.

"Labels don't just describe us, they shape how other people interact with us. If enough people call you intimidating, emotional, bossy, or difficult, it's easy to internalize those words. Executive Astrology asks a different question: What adaptive strength are they actually observing? Sometimes the trait that creates friction in one environment is exactly the trait that makes you indispensable in another."

Self-Awareness Is More Powerful Than Self-Correction

One of the biggest mistakes professionals make is trying to eliminate the very qualities that make them memorable. If you've spent years hearing that you're intimidating, emotional, stubborn, bossy, quiet, or "too much," it's easy to begin shrinking yourself in hopes of becoming more acceptable.

But leadership development isn't about becoming invisible. I think it's about understanding how your executive presence is interpreted so you can communicate with greater intention.

Sometimes the goal isn't to become less intense. It's to become more accessible. Sometimes it's not to speak less, but to create more space for others to contribute. And most times it isn't about changing your personality at all it's about recognizing the difference between your intentions and your impact. That's the key that can shift your from insecurity and imposter syndrome to leadership intelligence.

More Than a Horoscope

Executive Astrology isn't about predicting who you'll marry, whether you'll receive a promotion next month, or if Mercury retrograde is about to ruin your calendar. This is not that. This is for professional culture, not pop culture.

It's about understanding the archetypal patterns that shape how we lead, collaborate, communicate, and grow throughout our lives. When you recognize your natural strengths, you stop apologizing for them and start refining them. Self-awareness doesn't erase misunderstandings. but it does prevent those misunderstandings from becoming your identity.

Your Birth Time Is More Than a Detail

Most people know their birthday. Far fewer know their birth time. In astrology, your birth time is what establishes your Rising Sign and your chart's orientation. I like to think of it as the timestamp of the exact moment you entered the circle of life. That first impression of you has been unfolding ever since.

If you know your birth time, that's a wonderful place to begin exploring your astrological leadership style. If you don't, no worries, there's still plenty to learn from your Sun sign while you track it down.

If you're ready to go deeper, start by generating your Human Design chart on my website. Your chart combines your birth date, time, and location to reveal your unique design. You can also grab your customized Career Design Report after you see your chart to begin to understand how others experience you at as a professional.

From there, we'll use the Satori Alignment System (SAS) to integrate Human Design with Executive Astrology, helping you understand not only how you're wired to lead, but how you're naturally perceived, where your greatest strengths lie, and how to align your life, leadership, and relationships with the person you were designed to become.
