Key Career Trait 33: OVERSIGHT

Updated: Aug 14

THE TALENT TO DRAW WISDOM FROM EXPERIENCES

Without the enriching storyteller Key Career Trait 56 or the mindful historian (33) every organization and work environment would have to start from scratch every cycle as it wouldn't have the benefit of its abstract past lessons, only its logical forecasts in the future. This is the inherent energy to be the voice of memories after retreating to contemplate the experience while Key Career Trait 13 is the listener who collects the important stories about the work culture.

With your talent for drawing valuable lessons from experiences, you are able to extract the essence from every situation. You don’t just see the event itself, but also what can be learned from it, and you share this insight with others. Your ability to tell clear and concise stories makes it easy for others to understand the meaning of your experiences. You avoid rambling and always get straight to the point. Your stories are not only entertaining but also educational, offering clear value to your team. You know how to reflect on past experiences in a way that gives them concrete meaning for the future. In this way, you create an environment where learning and development are encouraged.

On your team you naturally provide the oversight and your advice is sought after because you can articulate your memories and experiences well. You always choose the right words and ensure they leave a lasting impression. Your perspective on past events allows you to offer solutions to current problems that are based on real experiences. You are able to not only think about the past but also convey it in a way that benefits the future. Your clear communication helps avoid misunderstandings and makes decision-making faster. This builds trust, as you provide genuine value through your reflected experiences.

PROFESSIONAL & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:

It is crucial that you wait for the right moment to share what you remember from lessons learned. You know that it’s not always advisable to speak immediately, but rather that you should take the time to fully understand what has happened. Your ability to reflect calmly helps you properly grasp the meaning of experiences and draw the right conclusions. You avoid rushing to judgment or sharing your insights without careful consideration. Your patience in reflection ensures that you never act hastily and always speak with clarity and thoughtfulness. This way, you can ensure that your wisdom is applied at the right time and in the right context.

The Six Stages of Development for Key Career Trait 33:

STAGE 1: OBSERVATION - Begin with an awareness that it is better to avoid getting involved at the wrong time or with an unaligned circumstance. Retreat can be advantageous when use to evade a destabilizing experience. This would look like walking away from an disagreement before it escalates.

STAGE 2: YIELDING - Feeling unshakeable and steadfast in your belief that everything will work out as it should, you'll become more comfortable spending time in retreat waiting for correct timing when someone calls on the strength and insight that you've been preserving.

STAGE 3: DISCONNECTING - Here you'll begin to recognize the benefits of having time to yourself to disconnect and think about things with a promise to return when you have more clarity. Privacy becomes a path to success if you're careful not to burn bridges as you temporarily disconnect.

STAGE 4: DETACHING - Believing that things will get better after taking a step back, like taking a vacation before starting that new project, you honor the dramatic need to retreat for regeneration. Be mindful to not detach in a manner that's unbecoming such as an athlete throwing a tantrum after a loss.

STAGE 5: DISCRETION - Develop your sense of knowing the importance of privacy until the time is right to engage with others. Holding your next move close to your chest is encouraged as it minimizes external expectations and influences by randomly sharing your self and your secrets prematurely which would result in confusion and discord.

STAGE 6: DISSOCIATION - As the movie Frozen recommends, "let it go" to be objective, refreshed and ready for the next new experience. Having a bright nature free from doubts and concerns about needless burden - aloofness. Finally you enjoy the privacy and oversight that comes with recollection. This can look like quitting a job that is making you miserable or deciding whether to sell your car before moving to a new state.
