Trait 28: Courage - Professional Development Key of the Week

This week contemplate how you are approaching and overcoming challenges in your career. Are you approaching big projects or certain people with fear and purposelessness or are you up for the adventure of it which leads to your expansion and development?


Be encouraged, if you have this trait 28 activated in your Design Chart, nothing is impossible. You are designed to take on adventures of a lifetime and take advantage of the invitations that challenges offer you. You are brave enough to push the envelope and seek out assignments and opportunities that will expand your professional horizon. You understand that there is a bigger picture than the problem before you and are willing to play the game of life… challenged accepted.


Challenges are attracted to you because of your awesome curiosity towards life and your readiness to ‘Just Do It’. You report for duty with coffee in one hand and confidence in the other. You see discovering the purpose of life as your life’s purpose which helps you and your team thrive in business by understanding the needs of your customers and clients. You support the team by leading the charge, taking on risks that are purposeful and doing things that others are afraid to try. This courageous work that you do must be meaningful and worth it, so you’ll ask probing questions such as… What is the purpose of this project? Why are we doing this? Is this work worth the risk?

It's not that you’re not afraid of anything, its more so that you are able to embrace the wisdom within the fears and allow fears to accompany you as you work to extract the wisdom as you journey along. The more challenges you face and overcome, the more encouraged you become due to your healthy relationship with fear. When you find yourself feeling purposeless, take that as a signal to get curious again and an personal invitation for more professional development. Garnering curiosity can also help if you find yourself avoiding risks due to past failures or negative consequences so you can get back in the game. One way you can practice this is by seizing the day, carpe diem! Begin a day that may seem meaningless by asking yourself, “If today was my last day in this position or at this company, how would I make the most of it and offer my greatest contribution?”


Character Trait 28 is a big assignment. It’s not here to fit it, it’s here for transformation and to elicit evolution. Some co-workers and colleagues may find you difficult to relate to as you seem to spend long periods of time in introspection pondering the deeper purpose of a project, policy or procedure. You are not content with superficial performance reviews or checking the box when it comes to the company’s mission, vision and values. Passionate about your work, you find fulfillment in roles that allow you examine the philosophical aspects of the business. You’re willing to go the extra mile to solve difficult problems because you have the instincts to get to the bottom of things. Mundane tasks leave you frustrated, bitter, disappointed and even angry as you constantly need to be challenged. You value honest conversations and bond with your team members via deep understanding an a sense of belonging. You have the ability to provide psychological safety at work due to your awareness and depth, allowing others to share their fears and dreams.


A perfect day at the office for you is enriching and filled with significance. If you can’t get plugged into a purpose, you find yourself feeling adrift, numb and questioning your value or place on the team. That may lead you distracting yourself with excessive busyness and taking risks with little to no ROI instead of the mindful, calculated risks that expand the business.
